Mt Vernon Murder Suspect Apprehended in O Fallon

Jaquez Gardner A man wanted in connection to a deadly shooting this past weekend at the Corner Tavern in Mt. Vernon has been taken into custody. The Mt. Vernon Police Department reports 29-year-old Jaquez Gardner was arrested in O Fallon Tuesday night. Members of the O’Fallon Police Department located a vehicle associated with Gardner at the Drury Inn Hotel. After several hours of surveillance, detectives and members of the U-S Marshall Task Force saw Gardner exit the hotel and get into a vehicle at around 9:10 p.m. They were able to take Gardner into custody without incident. Gardner was transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center . He is charged with First Degree Murder and being an Armed Habitual Offender in the death of Jamarco Foulks.

Norman Dejuan Brown, 3929 Stratford Blvd., Steubenville, was indicted on charges of having weapons while under disability and illegally conveying a weapon onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, both felonies. Brown, 43, allegedly tried to enter the Jefferson County Justice Center for a juvenile court hearing with a .32 caliber pistol tucked inside a black leather bag March 30. Brown told deputies he didn’t know the gun was in the bag, saying his girlfriend “apparently grabbed the wrong bag” when they left for court. Deputies said the gun was loaded and two other bullets were found in the bag.

lharris@heraldstaronline,com STEUBENVILLE A 55-year-old man allegedly running what amounted to an illegal drug dispensary in downtown Steubenville was taken into custody Thursday after authorities found cocaine, fentanyl, ecstasy and hundreds of other pills, plus marijuana and eight guns in his home. Jefferson County Drug Task Force Capt. John Lemal said James Earl Lawrence, of 816 N. Eighth St. is facing charges of possession of cocaine, possession of fentanyl, possession of MDMA (also known as ecstasy), receiving stolen property and having a weapon under disability. Lemal said they found between 100 and 105 grams of cocaine, about 30 grams of fentanyl, several hundred MDMA pills and another 150 to 200 pills that have yet to be identified. Investigators also found about 5.5 pounds of marijuana and $3,000 in cash, he said.

Staff writer STEUBENVILLE A city resident is in custody after he allegedly attempted to carry a gun into the Jefferson County Justice Center Tuesday for a custody hearing. Norman DeJuan Brown, 42, of 361 Summit Ave. was arrested Tuesday as he arrived in court for a child custody hearing. He has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, violating a protection order, conveying a prohibited item into a government facility and having a weapon under disability, deputies said. The protection order had been issued to the child’s mother, who was at the hearing. The gun, a .32 caliber pistol, was discovered inside a black leather bag when it went through the scanner in the justice center lobby. Deputies said the gun was loaded, and two other bullets were found in the bag.
