3 high-explosives defused, 2 Neo-JMB militants arrested in Bangladesh   Mon, Jul 12 2021 10:51:15 AM By Sumi Khan Dhaka, Jul 12 (IANS): Three high-explosives were defused and two members of the Neo-JMB banned militant outfit were arrested in Bangladesh s Narayanganj district by a specialised unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a top official said here. This was confirmed to IANS on Sunday night by Md Asaduzzaman, chief of the DMP s Counterterrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit. Three back-to-back explosions rocked the area during the operation between 10.45 p.m. and 11.06 p.m. One of the arrested Neo-JMB members was identified as Abdullah Al Mamun, who had led several militant attacks on law enforcement and other professionals, officials told IANS on Sunday night.

Babungari entered the minister s Dhanmondi residence along with Hefazat Secretary General Nurul Islam Jihadi, Khadem Naeem Junaid and Shafi Ahmed around 8.30 p.m. and they came out at 10.30 p.m. but avoided the waiting media. Several senior police and intelligence officials were present at the meeting. As soon as the militant leaders left, several law enforcement and intelligence officials were seen leaving the house.

The neo-JMB militants, armed with pistols, sub-machine guns, choppers and grenades, had taken around 40 people hostages, including restaurant staff and guests. Among the diners, they killed an Indian girl, nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Bangladeshi-born American, and two Bangladeshis.
