Top militant Mamunul trained in Pakistan: Bangladesh Police   Sun, Apr 25 2021 06:33:28 PM By Sumi Khan Dhaka, Apr 25 (IANS): Arrested Bangladeshi militant leader Mamunul Haq, who made all kinds of plans to oust the pro-liberation government led by Sheikh Hasina, has an affiliation with a militant group in Pakistan where he had travelled in 2005 for training, police said on Sunday. The top militant leader of Hefazat-e-Islam, which is accused of orchestrating the recent violence in the country, had stayed in Pakistan for 40 days and returned to the country with militant and extremist ideology, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Tejgaon Division, Harun-ur-Rashid told IANS.

Bangladesh: Mamunul confesses to inciting violence against Modi s visit   Wed, Apr 21 2021 12:50:10 PM By Sumi Khan Dhaka, Apr 21 (IANS): Hefazat-e-Islam Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque, who is in police custody, has confessed to inciting violence in Bangladesh against last month s visit by India s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the country. If Sheikh Hasina s government falls, no one can come to power without the support of Hefazat, said Haque. Hefazat-e-Islam group staged a nationwide violent protests in March over Modi s visit to Bangladesh. At least 16 people were killed in the incident. Haque confessed to the police that he used to provoke people against non-Muslim people, open thinkers and progressive leaders as well as the Awami league and PM Sheikh Hasina to grab the power of the country.

14 Hefazat leaders meet Bangladesh Home Minister   Tue, Apr 20 2021 12:24:42 PM By Sumi Khan Dhaka, Apr 20 (IANS): Fourteen top leaders of the Hefazat-e-Islami militant outfit met Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and members of intelligence agencies in an effort to find a compromise following the widespread violence in the country. The meeting took place on Monday night at around 10 p.m. at Khan s residence in the capital city. The 14 Hefazat leaders included General Secretary Nurul Islam, Nayeb-e-Amir Mahfuzul Haque, Khilafah Movement chief Ataullah Hafezji and his nephew Maulana Habibullah Miaji. Seeking anonymity, one of the militant leaders said they demanded that no more leaders or militant members should be arrested .
