Marche Johnson’s first official act on the Montgomery City Council was to rename a community center in honor of her predecessor, longtime District 3 Councilman Tracy Larkin.
The Montgomery City Council on Tuesday unanimously backed Johnson’s proposal to rename King Hill Community Center to Hilton L. “Tracy” Larkin Community Center. People attending the council meeting cheered after the vote.
“Marche, I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing this,” Council President Charles Jinright said. “Tracy would have been proud. That was kind of his love, right there.”

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - City leaders say they are fed up with the violence in Montgomery.
“I am tired of 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4 in the morning we getting these calls of some young person or old person or citizens getting shot and getting killed,” Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley said.
“These aggressive and egregious and tragic crimes are happening, whether it’s by knife or by gun, and it’s got to stop,” District 7 Councilman Clay McInnis said.
A Montgomery bar that had its business license suspended in December amid reports of violence and other problems has won the right to reopen after collaborating with Montgomery Police and promising changes.
The Montgomery City Council voted Tuesday to reinstate the license for Yu Bar & Grill at 163 East Blvd., and sibling owners Yumeitrius Manuel and Yumarcus Manuel said they plan to open again within the next 30 days.
The council originally suspended their business license nearly six months ago. Police at that time showed the council videos of a fight inside the bar and alleged marijuana use in a breezeway, then detailed a list of police calls ranging from complaints of crowding and theft in the parking lot, to a Dec. 13 attempted murder.
