MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Tuesday night, the Montgomery City Council voted on a measure to honor a councilman who died earlier this year.
The council members passed a resolution to dedicate the King Hill Community Center in honor of Tracy Larkin.
The center will be renamed as the Hilton L. “Tracy” Larkin Community Center. It sits in District 3, where Larkin served as councilman for years before he died in January.

Marche Johnson’s first official act on the Montgomery City Council was to rename a community center in honor of her predecessor, longtime District 3 Councilman Tracy Larkin.
The Montgomery City Council on Tuesday unanimously backed Johnson’s proposal to rename King Hill Community Center to Hilton L. “Tracy” Larkin Community Center. People attending the council meeting cheered after the vote.
“Marche, I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing this,” Council President Charles Jinright said. “Tracy would have been proud. That was kind of his love, right there.”

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Two women are vying for the District 3 Montgomery City Council seat, and a special runoff election on April 27 will determine who gets to hold the position.
Marche Johnson will face Adrienne Larkin, the wife of former District 3 City Council member Tracy Larkin who passed away in January. The late councilmen served District 3 for 17 years.
Seven candidates ran for the seat in a special election in March, but the vote ended in a runoff. Johnson secured 39% of the vote and Larkin secured 26%. A runoff was called because neither got 50% of the vote.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - A special election date has been set to fill the seat recently vacated by the death of Montgomery City Councilman Tracy Larkin.
Larkin passed away in the first week of the new year after months of respiratory health issues. The 74-year-old was serving his fourth term on the City Council at the time of his death.

The City of Montgomery has announced a special election for Montgomery City Council District Three.
The special election will take place on March 23.
City officials say anyone interested in qualifying as a candidate for the seat, an individual must have at least six month of residency in District Three prior to the election. The prospective candidate must also live in the district during their term(s) of office and not hold any other public office. The exceptions would be that of a notary public or service in the National Guard or naval or military reserve.
In order to vote in the special election, voters must live in District Three for at least 30 days prior to March 23 and are authorized to vote in that district’s city-designated precinct.
