Ravens hold strong in final inning, soar past Milford to stay atop the Henlopen standings

47abc April 27, 2021 GEORGETOWN, Del.- Behind two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Sussex Tech Ravens defeated the Milford Bucs 4-3 to move to 11-1 on the year. The loss drops the Buccaneers to 9-3. Coming off their first loss of the season on Saturday to St. Georges, Sussex Tech welcomed in Milford (9-2). The Bucs came into the afternoon quietly having a great season, sitting sixth in the state standings. Milford came out hot. Two quick hits in the top of the first inning including an RBI double by Aydin Zimmerman to bring Matt Winkleblech home from second. In the bottom of the inning, pitcher Alex Mergner struck out two of three batters to keep the score 1-0 to end the first.

Bryce Wells was happy to be back on the field after missing more than three weeks of action. The Milford High senior midfielder scored a hat trick in his first bit of action since suffering a shoulder injury March 29 as his Bucs defeated Sussex Central High 22-1 at Briggs Stadium Wednesday night. “It feels pretty good being back out here with my brothers,” said Wells. “I missed them, it was a long three weeks, I can tell you that, but being back out here and playing with them was exciting … It’s definitely a big confidence-booster we needed it. We lost a few games by one or two goals, but it feels good to get a win against a conference team.”

She’s a starter on attack with seniors Riley Keen and Haley Craig. Versus Ursuline April 19, good hands Carrie was on the field in the final three minutes of spread red with a one-goal lead. She ran and held it, making good passes – it was impressive. Carrie scored four goals in a win over Dover, a crucial goal in the win over Ursuline and two goals in the 18-2 win over Smyrna April 21. Carrie was also on the varsity field hockey team.

April 20, 2021 LEWES, Del. – Cape freshman Gage Joseph’s 7 RBI was the driving force behind a lethal Viking offense that out-slugged Sussex Central 15-7 Tuesday afternoon. Cape held a 5-3 lead heading into the sixth inning, but Central rallied. Cole Jester drove in two runs, Troy Morris added another, and a four was scored following an error by Cape, their fifth of the afternoon. Facing a two-run deficit the Vikings went to work. A bases loaded walk set Joseph up for a bases-clearing triple with one out in the home half of the frame. Mason Kosc delivered a bases-clearing hit of his own, putting the game out of reach.
