Four sports an hour - Josiah Miller is a 6-foot-3, 275-pound Cape senior with brains and brawn. At Cape’s track meet versus Dover and Smyrna Feb. 24, Josiah won the shot put with a throw of 47 feet. He is top-ranked in the state. He then sat down on the grass for a coed game of UNO. I asked three athletes, “Doesn’t anyone play Tonk anymore?” and they all looked back like “What?” so I let go of it. Josiah then led off Cape’s 4-by-200 relay, and he was a sight to behold, rumbling to a 27 flat on the leadoff leg. Adding a fourth event for the track meet, he picked up a rake and joined coach

Zimere Bolden
Watch Zimere “Scoochie” Bolden on the basketball court for just a few minutes and you might think “glue guy” or “enforcer.” Cape coach Shemik Thompson prefers a different descriptor: “monster.” The junior forward has averaged nine points and 10 rebounds in Cape’s last three games, shooting 76 percent from the floor along the way. He recorded his first career double-double in the Vikings’ win over Sussex Central Feb. 19, putting up career bests of 11 points and five blocks to go with 11 boards. Through 12 games, Bolden leads the team in rebounds (103) and blocks (14). “I’ve gotten more confident throughout the season,” Zimere said after Cape’s Feb. 24 victory over Milford. “I’m believing in myself, so I’m attacking the basket more and attacking the glass.”

Dirty dogging - A collie named Einstein was one of several canines at Sandhill Fields in Georgetown Feb. 21 for the Freeze the Day 5K. Can you name me a sport besides ultimate Frisbee where your dog can compete alongside you? I guess hunting and ducking are sports, but they are breed specific. I don t know if Lassie ever chilled in a blind waiting for a mallard to drop from the sky. I congratulated Einstein s human companions
