Indoor track held outside in weather that s not that bad

Indoor track held outside in weather that’s not that bad Sussex Central’s David Wootten runs 2:05 to win the 800 meters over Julian Calloway. DAVE FREDERICK PHOTOS Dave Frederick January 26, 2021 Indoor/outdoors - An indoor track meet held outdoors Jan. 22 on Cape’s Legends Stadium track featured visiting Sussex Central at Cape, both boys and girls. There were 14 events contested with the weather described as “not bad for January.”  Skyler McVicker and P.J. Stratton, two stalwarts off the Golden Knights’ state championship football team, won the first two open events, with McVicker capturing the 55-meter hurdles in 9.71 seconds and Stratton the 55-meter dash in 6.96. Stratton also won the 200 meters 23:04. Central won nine of 14 events, but the Cape boys showed breadth of depth and won the meet 61-43.

Tail over teakettle while keeping pace with fast people

Curtis Purnell returns the opening kickoff as the official returns to his feet. DAVE FREDERICK PHOTOS Dave Frederick Tail over teakettle - Cape’s Curtis Purnell (2018) returns a kickoff on a Friday night. He is head-over-heels happy, the way it’s supposed to be, but the trailing official is tail over teakettle. And if you’ve ever slipped while carrying a teakettle, don’t expect your afternoon guest sitting by the picture window in the parlor of your house not to laugh. Hats off – pun intended – to all officials who are out there running with the athletes, dodging balls and bodies. I really don’t know why more of them don’t get trucked or pull muscles. It is hazardous duty. I bail like a Boston Whaler when flow comes my way. A mask may be required, but a helmet is a better idea.
