Lalu s condition is stable, recovering gradually: AIIMS doctor

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS) The health of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad who was admitted to AIIMS after a lung infection, is gradually improving, Dr Rakesh Yadav, who is supervising the team looking after him, told IANS. His condition has improved slightly from the day he was admitted, Yadav added.
The doctor informed that Lalu had developed pulmonary edema, a condition when excess fluid gets collected in the lungs. Fluid retention occurred in his lungs which led to pneumonia infection, he said.
However, the overall condition of the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief is said to be stable now. He is able to talk and sit for a while. While still being kept in the Intensive Care Unit, he is not on ventilator or oxygen support, Yadav said.

After Lalu Prasad Yadav was shifted to AIIMS-Delhi on Saturday, Dr Rakesh Yadav and his team visited the RJD leader and examined his health on late Sunday evening.
The doctor s priority is to cure the infection of the lungs and pneumonia, sources said. Jailed RJD supremo, who was undergoing treatment at a Ranchi hospital, was having trouble breathing for the last two-three days. On Friday, he was found to be having pneumonia. Considering his age, we have decided to shift him to AIIMS- Delhi on the advice of doctors for better treatment, RIMS Director Dr Kameshwar Prasad had said.
Lalu Yadav was shifted to AIIMS New Delhi on Saturday as his condition worsened in Ranchi.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi yesterday evening, has been put under observation in the critical care unit of the hospital s Cardiothoracic and Neurosciences Centre. His family and friends, including wife Rabri Devi and party colleague Bhola Yadav, have been in attendance at the facility.
Seventy-two-year-old Mr Yadav, convicted in fodder scam cases, was undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi for multiple ailments when, yesterday, his condition worsened. His doctors then decided to shift him to AIIMS New Delhi.

Lalu, the former Bihar chief minister who is serving a jail term in fodder scam cases, had been receiving treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Ranchi. After a medical team advised better care, the 72-year-old leader was flown to Delhi around 6pm, Jharkhand inspector-general of prisons Birendra Bhusan told The Telegraph.

On Friday, Lalu Prasad s wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, sons Tej Pratap and Tejashwi reached Ranchi on a special plane after being informed of the veteran leader s deteriorating health.
The family met Prasad on Friday night after which Tejashwi told reporters that Lalu s condition was worrisome.
Lalu s family had sought the help of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the state government in arrangment to transport him to Delhi.
