Tapovan/Dehradun: Two more bodies were recovered early Tuesday from the Tapovan tunnel where efforts were underway on the 10th consecutive day to reach workers feared trapped inside after a flash flood in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.
The confirmed death toll in the Chamoli disaster has now mounted to 58 and another 148 people are missing, an official said.
DEHRADUN â The rescuers have recovered 23 limbs in addition to 58 bodies so far after the February 7 deluge in Uttarakhandâs Chamoli district.
Out of this, the last rites of 55 bodies and 20 limbs have been performed after collecting DNA samples, said DIG Nilesh Anand Bharne, who is also the spokesman of the state police.
But the police believe that all these 20 limbs do not belong to 20 persons separately, which means that one or more than two limbs may belong to one person.
Bharne also did not rule out this possibility when enquired. âIt is possible that two limbs belonged to one person,â he said.

DEHRADUN: Satpal Maharaj, state irrigation minister of Uttarakhand on Tuesday revived the debate about lost nuclear device strengthening the rumors that it may be the reason behind the flashfloods caused due to melting of the glacier. It s a matter of concern about how glaciers are melting in the mountains resulting in such unfortunate events. The plutonium pack which was kept to monitor China’s movement is no longer there. I request the government to investigate this angle too, said the minister.
In year 2018 too, Maharaj had said that he had urged the Prime Minister to take action in this regard.
