Uttarakhand Floods: Two More Bodies Recovered from Tunnel, Death Toll Rises to 58
Eleven of the bodies were recovered from the tunnel at the National Thermal Power Corporation s Tapovan-Vishnugad project site, where about 30 people were initially feared trapped.

Tapovan/Dehradun: Two more bodies were recovered early Tuesday from the Tapovan tunnel where efforts were underway on the 10th consecutive day to reach workers feared trapped inside after a flash flood in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.
The confirmed death toll in the Chamoli disaster has now mounted to 58 and another 148 people are missing, an official said.

DEHRADUN: “My job has always been to cut the mountains, or plough the earth. I never conserved nature. But today, I am grateful that nature came to my rescue in the form of a tree,” Vikram Chauhan, 49, an excavator operator who survived the Rishiganga flash flood, told TOI.
Now Chauhan has a different outlook towards nature. “I respected trees as they gave us oxygen, nothing more than that. But that morning taught me a lesson. Nature has both the powers to save or to kill.”

New Delhi: As a part of the Nanda Devi glacier broke off in Joshimath, in Chamoli district, and hurtled downstream on the Dhauli Ganga, towards the Tapovan hydroelectric power project, some people idling under the Sunday sun in the mountains above first spotted the huge column of debris approaching and alerted workers at the site below with shouts and whistles.
