People across the country are getting ready to share One Sunrise Together tomorrow (May 8) for this year’s Darkness Into Light, supported by Electric Ireland.
Pieta and Electric Ireland are continuing to invite people to sign up at www.darknessintolight.ie and to take part in any way they can – walking, running, swimming, biking or simply sharing this special sunrise moment that can unite us all while still staying physically apart.

1. Hugging allowed for vaccinated people from Monday
The Chief Medical Officer says grandparents who’ve been vaccinated will be able to hug their grandchildren from Monday. While chief executive of the health service Paul Reid say he has “never felt a stronger moment of hope and optimism” as Covid-19 vaccines roll out across the country.

The 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 has more than doubled in three areas of Waterford in the last fortnight. The latest figures show that the rates for Lismore, Dungarvan and Waterford City South local electoral areas have all jumped up. Podcaster and comedy producer Máirín Geddis had just turned 30 when she gave birth to her son. Just days later, she was diagnosed with having lymphoma in her chest.
THIS year, as people cannot gather together for the Oak Healthy Living Centre s usual Darkness Into Light fundraising and awareness event in Lisnaskea, organisers are asking all supporters to don their yellow t-shirts – old or new – and take part in the event at a time and in a location that suits them. Every year, Darkness Into Light brings people together at pre-dawn meeting points all across the island of Ireland, and at similar gatherings all across the world, with participants then walking together to greet the sunrise and a new day – all in a bid to remember those lost to suicide, and to also highlight that there is always help and support for anyone struggling with any self-harm ideation.
