SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – A zoning change drew the opposition of rural city residents during a meeting of the Sioux Falls City Council Tuesday evening.
The proposal rezones a 50-acre area adjacent to East 41st Street and East of Six Mile Road from an agricultural district to a suburban district with live/work and multi-family homes.
Employees with the city say the change is in line with the city’s strategic plan.
Residents told the council the change won’t preserve the rural character and should be limited to single-family homes.
After public comment, the council voted 5-2 to approve the zoning change.

CALEDONIA â It took nearly a full year on the market, but an 11-acre, five-lot property just north of Six Mile Road â with a fully furnished three-bedroom, three-bathroom house literally hanging over the edge of a fast-eroding bluff overlooking Lake Michigan â sold in late April.
The five-lot property anchored by 7009 Novak Road sold for a little more than $250,000, according to county records, almost $200,000 less than the online listed asking price. But much of the land is little more than rubble and the fully furnished home is at risk of demolition by nature.
