Pizza Hut Launches ‘Detroit-Style’ Pizza, and America Says ‘Huh?’

There’s just one problem: A lot of people have no clue what that is.
“Detroit style? I’ve never heard of it,” said Mike Zurek, 70, who has lived in Chicago nearly all his life. For him, there is only one deep-dish pizza: Chicago style. “But every place has its way of making it unique.”
Even some Detroiters are a bit puzzled. Karen Gunderson stopped by a Pizza Hut in suburban Detroit this week to pick up a stuffed-crust pie. She had seen on the news that the pizza-making chain was rolling out a Detroit-style version but wasn’t quite sure what to make of it.

Five generations have lived within a five- to six-mile radius dating back to the 1930s. Ninth-grader Easton Hood represents the fifth generation.

Easton’s father, David, a newly elected member of the district’s Board of Education, is the son of Ed Hood Jr., a retired Realtor who sold many homes in Comstock Park. For 12 years Ed also owned Comstock Park Foods, on West River Drive across from Dwight Lydell Park. He sold the business in 1996 before it closed two years later. Ed is a former school board member and community leader.
Barricaded situation ends on Detroit s west side; 2 children inside home safe

DETROIT (WXYZ) â A barricaded situation on Detroit s west side ended safely after several hours when the man inside the home surrendered Sunday evening.
Detroit police officers were on the scene of a barricaded situation on the city s west side early Sunday. The suspect had his two young children, ages 2 and 3, inside the home, police said.
The situation began on a report of a domestic violence incident just after 11:30 a.m.
Police from Detroit s 12th Precinct were dispatched to the home, which is in the area of Six Mile Road and Greenfield.
54-year-old hit by two cars in Caledonia
Authorities say it happened around 6:30 p.m. near Six Mile Road and Beechnut Drive.
According to the police department, the man was walking along Six Mile Road and crossed into the path of a car. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the man, but was unable to do so. The car left the road and hit a tree. While the 54-year-old man was hurt in the road, he was hit by another car.
Both drivers remained on scene and were cooperative with police. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
CALEDONIA â A man walking along Six Mile Road after dark Wednesday night was struck by two passing vehicles.
The man, identified as a 54-year-old from Caledonia, suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Ascension All Saints Hospital before being airlifted via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa âdue to the extent of his injuries.â

The man was walking along Six Mile Road, near its intersection with Beechnut Drive just west of Highway 31, at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit; sunset on Wednesday occurred locally just before 4:30 p.m.
