Swim & Dive Dominates Miami

Results Coral Gables, Fla.  –  The Florida State women’s swimming and diving team defeated Miami (4-2, 1-1 ACC) on the road on Friday, moving to 5-1, 2-0 ACC on the season. The Seminoles were dominant, winning 12 of the 16 events contested at the Norman Witten Pool. The final score was 197-103. “It was an awesome performance,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We had some NCAA cuts, some best times and some solid stuff all around. This was a big win and we put up times that should easily be ranked within the top 20 in the country. We’re excited to fine tune some things and be great in the post season. I’m really proud of the ladies today.” FSU started off with a massive, one-two finish in the 200 medley relay, led by the squad of Tania Quaglieri, Nina Kucheran, Jenny Halden and Rebecca Moynihan with a time of 1:37.55. Kucheran Lowers FSU Record on Final Night

Atlanta, Ga.  –  On the final night of the Georgia Tech Invite, Nina Kucheran lowered her school record in the 200 breast with at time of 2:08.57 (NCAA B) for silver. In prelims, Kucheran turned in a time of 2:11.36 and was seeded fifth for the final. At night she climbed to second, turning in a new personal best, a mark she set at the 2019 ACC Championships (2:08.78). Pia Murray led off the session by taking bronze in the 200 back, touching at 1:55.73 (NCAA B), which was just off her best (1:55.21). Maddie McDonald followed in seventh at 1:57.39. The Noles had two in the top heat of the 100 free, led by Rebecca Moynihan in sixth at 49.60 and Zsofia Kurdi in seventh (49.72). Kurdi would lead off the 400 free relay with her fastest split, touching at 49.50. Rookie Edith Jernstedt turned in her best at 1:58.26 and Hannah Womer also clocked her career best at 1:58.57. Florida State Sweeps Georgia Tech in Tight Dual Meet Showdown

No 15/RV Noles Outlast No 19/NR Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga.  –  The No.15/RV Florida State swimming and diving teams defeated ACC foe No. 19/NR Georgia Tech on the road on Saturday at the McAuley Aquatics Center. Both meets were close contests, as the 15th-ranked men (2-0, 1-0 ACC) edged No. 19 GT 150-148 and the RV women (1-1, 1-0 ACC) prevailed 159-141. “It’s great to get two wins on the road,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “It’s always tougher when you travel and we’re really excited about how they fought after a really hard week of work, “It was a team effort from top to bottom,” Studd added. “When Georgia Tech won an event, we went two, three, four, which is great.” In the 42 meetings in the series, the two-point win for the men’s team was the closest in program history over the Yellow Jackets.  FSU won six events on the day, but it was the depth in five races where the Noles placed second, third and fourth that secured the victory. Noles Add 400 Free Relay NCAA Automatic Bid

GREENSBORO, N.C.  –  Paced by an NCAA automatic time, two top eight finishes and a school record, the No. 15 Florida State swimming and diving team concluded the 2021 ACC Championships on Saturday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Seminoles outscored No. 18 North Carolina (729) on the final day in order to finish in fifth place with a total of 740 points, in one of the most competitive championships in league history. “On paper, we couldn’t catch North Carolina,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “But the guys dug deep and really killed it. It was truly an amazing last night.” FSU earned its third NCAA automatic relay bid of the meet (200 MR, 200 FR), touching with a time of 2:50.74 in the 400 free relay behind the team of sophomore Peter Varjasi, freshman Mason Herbet along with juniors Jakub Ksiazek and Max McCusker.
