Carlson Captures High Diving World Cup Title

Tallahassee, Fla.  – Former Florida State diver Molly Carlson captured the World Aquatics High Diving title on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While representing Canada, Carlson tallied 374.00 points over her four dives, three of which were new to her list, to best Rhiannan Iffland (Australia) by just over 10 points (363.85). After sitting in second place for the first two rounds, Carlson jumped to the top of the leaderboard on her third dive. She sealed the win after doing a half-twisting forward quad, which boasts a 4.4 degree of difficulty to earn a tally of 121.00. Prior to her World Cup victory, Carlson won the first Canadian Senior High Diving title on May 15 with a score of 382.30. A permanent Red Bull athlete, Carlson will begin competing in the 2023 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, on June 3 in Boston, Massachusetts at The Institute of Contemporary Art. Tallahassee, Fla.  – Members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams competed in national meets across this month. The Seminoles earned 15 second swims, bringing home a pair of silver medals from Jokubas Keblys and Marcos Egri-Martin.

FSU Swim and Dive Hands Out Season Awards

Tallahassee, Fla.  – The Florida State swimming and diving teams handed out awards for the 2022-23 season on Saturday. “It was a great day to come together and celebrate our season,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We’ve built an incredible team culture and I am very proud of our student-athletes and what they’ve achieved this season.” Yordan Yanchev, Edith Jernstedt were named the Most Valuable for swimming, while Samantha Vear and Tazman Abramowicz took home the honor for divers.  

Yanchev Smashes Career Best to Close NCAAs

Minneapolis, Minn.  – The No.22 Florida State men’s swimming and diving closed out the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. Yordan Yanchev turned in the highlight of the day, clocking a new personal best by almost 12 seconds in the 1650 free at 14:56.18. Yanchev swam down Alex Zettle of Texas in the final 100 yards to claim the heat one win by just under two-tenths of a second. He finished 25th overall. Yanchev secured the third-fastest time in FSU history, after swimming the eighth at the ACC Championships (15:08.13) this season. “That was a big swim by Yordan,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Nearly dropping 12 seconds after he swam his best mile just about a month ago was a big highlight of the meet. I am very proud of our guys. I thought we had a good meet overall.” Arijus Pavlidi led off prelims by clocking 1:42.70 in the 200 back, finishing 33rd. Varjasi Clocks Season Best at NCAAs

Minneapolis, Minn.  – All four student-athlete representing the No. 22 Florida State men’s swimming and diving team were in action at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday. Peter Varjasi and Yordan Yanchev competed in the 200 free, while Arijus Pavlidi swam the 100 back. Tazman Abramowicz made his fifth appearance at the NCAA Championships, competing in the men’s 3-meter springboard. Varjasi clocked a season-best in the 200 free, touching at 1:34.16 and Yanchev followed at 1:34.88. Varjasi is scheduled to compete in the 100 free, while Yanchev is entered in the 1650 free. Pavlidi swam a time of 46.91 in the 100 back, touching for 39th place. Pavlidi is set to swim his specialty, the 200 back on Saturday. Abramowicz received marks between 5.0-7.0 on each of his six dives to score 336.60 for 30th place. He will compete in platform on Saturday to close out his collegiate career.
