Doña Ana County plans funeral services for unclaimed

View Comments LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana County will bury the remains of 32 people whose bodies were not claimed in a service next week. One of those 32 is Heather Bubrig, of New Orleans, who was killed Oct. 31, 2017, after a reserve deputy with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department shot her. According to authorities, several law enforcement officers arrived on La Pradera Road after multiple emergency calls. One of the callers said a woman fitting Bubrig s description was in the shed behind their home, authorities said. As officers approached the shed, Bubrig reportedly came out of the structure armed with a sledge ax, authorities said.

LAS CRUCES - One Las Cruces officer was dragged by a fleeing Chevy Tahoe while another officer fired his weapon at the occupants of the SUV following a traffic stop Wednesday in front of the Doña Ana Park Apartments. LCPD identified Joel Orozco, 28, 1850 Sexton Street, as the driver of the Tahoe. Orozco was later taken into custody and charged with multiple felonies, including a felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated battery on a peace officer causing great bodily harm and aggravated fleeing from an officer. Orozco has also been charged with resisting arrest and failure to appear, both misdemeanors.
