A quick goodbye. Thank you for starting Sunday Morning with us. Velshi continues our coverage. Good morning, ali. Good morning. A little how the sausage is made for the audience. While you were talking in your last segment, we thought we might have a little technical problem talking to our first guest and our first instinct is, get one of the weekend folks. I dont even know, you probably dont know what happened because it came and went and everything is solved. What would have happened is they wouldve come into the studio with michael or simone or both need to state. Which one is it going to be. I am there for you. There you go, i appreciate you all. Have yourselves a great rest of your day. And we will see you later in the week. Velshi starts now. Good morning, to Sunday October 6. Welcome to americast. Hello, it s sarah, and i m in the bbc s bureau in washington, dc. And it s justin in the worldwide headquarters of americast in london, england. It is such a big question, isn t it, whether or not the american election is affecting the events in the middle east, and vice versa, whether they will affect the outcome of the election? and a fascinating one, i think, because we often say that foreign policy doesn t really impact on us elections. But i wonder if this is creating enough background noise that it will get into people s heads. I don t think anyone s going to go to the ballot box thinking, you know, i do or do not agree with the administration s policy on precisely the two state solution between israel and palestine. But i do think it creates an atmosphere that will influence people s thinking. So, if we re answering that question first do events in the middle east affect the american election before we get to looking at it the other way around, i think
Calling for an end to the war, as the annivesary of the October 7 attack approaches. Now on bbc new, americast. Its all very combustible, isnt it . Huge violence in the Middle East and an american election about to happen. Two questions, then. Does the election affect the conflict in the Middle East . And does the conflict affect the election in america . Those two questions of course hugely important, both hugely complex, and the answer to each of them can be yes or no. So, they do not necessarily cancel Each Other out. But there is no question at all that what is happening in the Middle East matters in america, and what happens in america matters in the Middle East. Welcome to americast. To run over and catch him. It was extremely nice to get away, even forfive or six days. I have to say, part of me felt like id like to bury my head in the sand, but i couldnt do that because the only thing, of course, everybody wanted to talk about on my holiday was Guess What The American election. Actually, it was quite interesting because i heard Mayor Sadiq Khan of london on one of the us nets i think it was Today Or Yesterday saying that The American election is the most important election of all the elections that are taking place around the world this year, and it was certainly the case while i was on holiday. Its literally the only topic of conversation. Thats my sense also around the dinner table. Im sure thats the case for you as well, caitriona. I mean, it feels like everyone constantly wants to ask, whos going to win . And of course, that is The One question that we cant answer, were not going to answer, nobody wants to be left with egg on their face, and its impossible to
