Here at San Jose City hall. You have mayoral candidate dave cortese, whos a santa clara supervisor, has the backing of the police union. You can see him here casting his vote this morning. Hes going up against sam liccardo, a San Jose City councilman, who has the support of mayor chuck reed. What separates the two most is where they stand on measure b. Liccardo supported the law to cut pensions for Police Officers and other City Employees in order to trim the budget deficit. As a result, there is now bad blood between the rank and file Police Officers and the mayor and parts of the city council. Cortese is painting himself as the mayor who can mend those relations and help rebuild the department. In recent years, hundreds of officers have been let go in a costcutting measure leading to lower morale and an uptick in crime. Cortese promises to hire 140 officers to restore some of the departments original strength. The neighborhood that were standing in right now is the neighborhood that

To all this because they believed if people could get to know the four plaintiffs, if they could see what they went through over the course of these five years, that win or lose it would educate people. Win or lose it would move people and make them see this issue in a different light. How hard was it to choose the plaintiffs indicates . Neutrality. Your colleague, henry waxman, recently wrote to the fcc asking it to be reclassified as title ii. Whats your reaction to that . Guest well, i respect henry i a lot, obviously, but hes wrong. Theyre trying to use an old law passed back in the 1930s for an industry that is in the 21st century. Its been proven over and over again that the best solution to the allocation issues and usage issues is an open, transparent market with appropriate oversight by federal and in some cases state and local government. We have a booming internet, we have a booming telecommunications system, and by and large, its because in the last 20 Years Congress and various president s have adopted more and more open, marketbased policies towards telecommunications. So for henry or the fcc to try to use an old, old almost 100yearold law to regulate the internet, in my opinion, is just, frankly, platte wrong. Flat wrong. Host if the fcc does reclassify broadband as a title ii entity, would congress have
