During a committee of the whole meeting earlier in the week, the consensus of the board was to approve a rental agreement for document storage from Mark Ransford and Damian Wasik. However, doing that became complicated when a second bid came in after saying the Ransford-Wasik proposal was the only bid received. The complication arose because of inaccurate wording on the request for proposal.

The Hatchets won, 49-36. Bad Axe is now 9-2 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Himmel, making her first start of the season, led the way for the Hatchets with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks. The sophomore set a new single-game school record with those 11 blocks. Other leaders on the night for Bad Axe were Kate Clancy with 9 points and Camryn Affer and Alexis Booms with 5 points each. Sophie Shuart had 4 points, Callie Engler and Claire Castle each chipped in 2, and Haley Newland and Madison Kinney each had 1 point.

At first, voters in the state approved the use of medical marijuana, and then in 2018 voters approved the use of recreational marijuana for those over the age of 21. Commissioner Dan Grimshaw said he received a call about such a company wanting to open in Millington, and it is facing opposition. “I reminded them to look at the votes that go back to that (issue), Grimshaw said. Look at the votes that occurred in your area. (Recreational marijuana) did not prevail.

The Bearcats are now 5-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Ubly head coach Joel Leipprandt attributed his team’s improved play to changes the Bearcats have made since the start of the season. “The girls are adjusting to their new roles and our overall energy has been improving every game,” Leipprandt said. “Our offensive timing is getting better, as well.” Leading the way for the Bearcats on Monday night were Dajnae Leipprandt with 17 points, Josie Gusa with 9, Madeline Langenburg with 8, Kylie Maurer and Hally Zeihm with 5 each and Hailey Mausolf with 4.

Tuscola County eyes changing building code services Mary Drier, For the Tribune Feb. 24, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail CARO Tuscola County Commissioners are in the process of drafting a request for proposal for building code inspections. After fielding several complaints for more than a year over services provided by the company the county hired to handle building code issues, commissioners started looking at options. About 19 years ago, the county hired South Central Michigan Construction Code Inspections of Athens when the decision was made to privatize building code inspections due to the expense to the county to operate that department. County Controller-Administrator Clayette Zechmeister presented a rough draft of the RFP at the last county meeting. She asked for guidance from the commissioners on what they thought it should include.
