SEBEWAING – The Bad Axe girls basketball team did something on Wednesday night that no other team had been able to accomplish in six previous tries this season: defeat the Unionville-Sebewaing Patriots.

The Hatchets are now 5-1 on the season overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Patriots are 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Greater Thumb West.
Bad Axe started the first quarter with a 6-0 run, but the Patriots withstood the barrage and the game was soon knotted at 8-8. CASS CITY – The Bad Axe girls basketball team traveled to Cass City on Monday night and earned its fourth win of the season, beating the Red Hawks, 49-45, in a seesaw battle that saw several lead changes and clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch.
Monday night’s contest was close from start to finish, with the Hatchets heading into halftime with a slim 24-21 lead. Both teams held leads of two and three points as the game went back and forth with neither team gaining a solid foothold. Olivia Krueger would hit a couple of three-pointers to give the Red Hawks some momentum at the beginning of the third quarter, but the Hatchets would battle back and build a seven-point lead in the fourth and hold on for the victory.
