A shelter-in-place order was issued Monday morning in a residential neighborhood in Pinole due to police activity, authorities said.
Officials cleared the area at about 9:30 a.m. and said residents could resume normal activities. Police said a suspect, who was unidentified, peacefully surrendered and was in custody.
The Pinole Police Department did not release additional details about the incident.
Police initially advised people to avoid the areas of Marlesta Road between Belmont Way and Meadow Avenue and Kildare Way between Marlesta Road and Tara Hills Drive early Monday morning. Residents in the area were told to stay inside until further notice, close and lock all windows and doors, stay off the phone and only call 911 for a life-threatening emergency.

Two people were killed and two others were injured Monday night after a police pursuit in San Jose ended in a deadly crash, authorities said.
San Jose police were called by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department to assist with a collision near Lawrence Expressway and Mitty Way just before 10 p.m., officials said.
Officials said deputies were attempting a traffic stop when the driver of the vehicle took off northbound on Lawrence Expressway traveling at a high speed. Police said the man, who was not identified, drove through a red light at Mitty Way and collided with a vehicle turning left.

A 3.2 magnitude earthquake shook parts of South Lake Tahoe early Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.The Chronicle
The quake was detected at 5:37 a.m. with an epicenter just under 5 miles southeast of Dollar Point in Placer County.
The earthquake struck at about a depth of 1.2 miles, according to USGS data.

Police arrested a man Monday accused of stabbing a woman and her 12-year-old daughter with an ax in their shared residence in San Rafael, officials said.
Ermidio Diaz, 63, was booked into Marin County Jail for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing great bodily injury, mayhem and child endangerment resulting in great bodily injury, police said. He is being held without bail.
