The results of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab were declared after counting of the votes on Thursday. While the BJP secured a majority in Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Uttarakhand, the party will also be forming the government in Goa where it won 20 out of 40 seats and apparently has the support of three other winning candidates. In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party swept the polls and CM-elect Bhagwant Mann met the Governor on Saturday to stake a claim to form the government in the state. While the new Uttarakhand chief minister is likely to be announced only after Holi, BJP sources have said that Pramod Sawant will continue as the Goa CM.
