The Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Okechukwu Okoye, has faulted reports that the assembly complex was shut down because some lawmakers and workers tested positive for COVID-19.
Okoye said the complex was shut down for fumigation state a preventive measure against diseases, including COVID-19.
Okoye said, “The truth is that Governor Willie Obiano is fumigating public institutions in the state as a preventative measure against diseases, especially COVID-19. He started the exercise at the secretariat. Now it is the turn of the assembly complex.
“That’s why we vacated the place and asked workers to stay at home for two weeks because the toxicity of the fumigation.

PUNCH Metro had exclusively reported on Tuesday that the Anambra State Government would arrest the 32-year-old prophet for alleged indecent conduct.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, but refused to give details.
The prophet, who is the founder of Children of Light Anointing Ministries, Nkpor, in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, was reportedly arrested on Wednesday.
The state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Don Adinuba, had warned the prophet against practices which he termed, ‘criminal and indecent conduct in the name of religion.’

The police in Anambra State have raided a baby factory in Oba, in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
Eight women, including five who were pregnant, were arrested during the operation.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the women were arrested in the house of one Melvina Uba.
Mohammed said eight children, including five newly-born babies, were rescued during the operation.
He gave names of the suspects as Edna Nnadi, 37; Ujunwa Nweke, 25; Izuchukwu Uba, 24; Chinaza Ibeh, 19; Peace Effiong, 25; and Gift Collins, 20.
Others are Chimkaso Kingsley, 25; Happiness Monday,18; Chioma Okonkwo, 25; and Uchechukwu Nwankwo,18.
28-year-old Anambra man kills wife, daughter with shovel

A 28-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Obijiofor, has killed his wife and only child in Ozubulu, in the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect allegedly clubbed the victims with a shovel.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the incident happened on Tuesday.
Mohammed said, “On Tuesday, around 7.45pm, police operatives attached to Ozubulu Police Station arrested one Chukwuemeka Obijiofor, aged 28, of Ofufe Nza village in the Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State.
“The suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked his wife, Chisom Chukwuemeka, aged 26, and own child, Amanda Chukwuemeka, aged four, both of same address, with a shovel on their heads.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance has denied speculations that the Governor of Anambra State, Willy Obiano, was planning to join the All Progressive Congress.
There have been speculations that Obiano was plotting to dump APGA to join the APC in order to contest the Anambra North Senatorial Election in 2023.
Obiano, who was elected on the platform of APGA in 2014, would complete his constitutionally allowed two terms in office on March 17,2022.
The National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, in a statement, in Awka, on Tuesday said, “Every election season, the disgruntled opposition elements are known for being more desperate and resorting to all manners of blackmail in a condemnable bid to seize power from the ruling party.
