Buhari admits COVID-19 exposed Nigeria’s technology deficit

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday said the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the technology and innovation gap between Nigeria and the developed world.
He however said the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure was strategically positioned to fill the gap.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled “President Buhari directs NASENI to bridge gaps in COVID-19 research, technology,” Buhari spoke at a meeting with the Board of NASENI at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President said, “The countries that are at the forefront of economic recovery have only one thing in common: investment and sustained research and development work in knowledge economy.

A centenarian, Margaret Nwuelo, has dragged a billionaire, Cletus Ibeto, and 14 others before the Anambra State High Court presided over by Justice Denis Maduechesi, over alleged land grabbing.
The 104-year-old woman, in her statement of claim/writ of summons, asked the court to cause the defendants to pay N1.5bn for disturbing her peace over a piece land she claimed to have bought with her late husband in 1957.
She instituted the action on behalf of representatives of the family.
The centenarian sought, among others, an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their servants, agents, privies or any other person from further trespassing on her land on 136-140, Abel Okoye Road, Egbu, Umuenem, Otolo, Nnewi.

A 28-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Obijiofor has allegedly killed his wife and only child in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that the man who allegedly ran amok, clubbed the victims to death with a shovel.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the incident happened on Tuesday
Mohammed said, “On Tuesday at about 7.45pm, police operatives attached to Ozubulu Police Station arrested one Chukwuemeka Obijiofor aged 28 years, of Ofufe Nza village in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State.
“Suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked his wife, one Chisom Chukwuemeka, aged 26 years, and own child, Amanda Chukwuemeka, aged 4 years, both of same address, with a shovel on their heads.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance has said there is no iota of the truth in the rumour that the Anambra State Governor, Mr Willie Obiano, is planning to join the All Progressives Congress.
This came amidst speculations that Obiano may dump the APGA for the APC to contest the Anambra North Senatorial Election in 2023.
Obiano, who was elected on the platform of APGA in 2014, would complete his constitutional two tenures in Office on March 17, 2022.
The National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, in a statement on Tuesday, said there was no iota of truth in the rumour that the governor would dump the APGA for the APC.

The police in Anambra State have arrested Emeka Chinwuba, an aide to the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, for circulating fake information on COVID-19 at Government House, Awka.
Chinwuba was paraded on Monday at Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, Amawbia, near Awka, the state capital.
He had on January 15 allegedly circulated information on social media, stating that there was COVID-19 scare in the Anambra State Government House.
He had alleged that the wife of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, who lived in the United States had returned to the country for the yuletide and infected the Governor and his wife with the deadly disease.
