The much-anticipated decision on the fate of the Wayne County Courthouse will not be known for at least some time. The board failed to take any action during the meeting concerning the building, but an Executive Session at the conclusion of the meeting concerned the possible purchase, lease or acquisition of property. No action was taken by the board at the conclusion of the Executive Session. David Harl addressed the board in support of keeping the courthouse, citing its architectural and historic value to the community. Jail Committee Chairman Nathan Jones stated that the board was investigating its options if the Qualified Immunity for Police Bill passes in the Illinois Legislature. Lora Smith has been selected as the new Executive Director of the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission, which serves Crawford, Edwards, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties. Smith will be responsible for the management of all planning and administrative tasks for the Commission, and she comes to it with experience in grants and higher education.
The Fairfield PaintOut is accepting up to 10 photos per person of county scenery for this fall’s PaintOut. Artists will choose one photo to recreate in a painting that will be available at the art show and sale in October, and any photographer with a photo chosen will receive $20 in Chamber Bucks, with a limit of three per person. The Cisne Village Board met last night and discussed an ambulance addition, to include concrete floors and higher garage doors, on the west end of the current building. The board heard complaints about the new trash system in Cisne, and it says it is looking in to the price of emptying dumpsters more often to help those who can’t afford a second trash can. The board also approved its usual donation of $1,000 to the Cisne Reunion Committee.
57-year-old Johnsonville resident Jay J. Gammon was sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday after pleading guilty to a Class C misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Gammon was ordered to pay $905 in fines and court costs as the totality of his sentence.
