Fairfield Community High School held its annual Awards Day on Friday. Over $650,000 was awarded to FCHS seniors. Among the award recipients is Jacob Britt and Noah McElravey, receiving the Puckett Foundation Scholarship, worth $12,000 each. Winners of the Fairfield First Step Rotary Scholarships, worth $500 each, are Blake Pruitt, Brenna Freeman, Aaron Perez, Jacob Britt, Claire Kakac and Xavier Tullis. Winning the Wayne County 4-H Foundation Scholarship, in the amount of $500 was Drew Barbee. Winner of the Wayne County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Scholarship, worth $1000, was Callie Vaughan, with Casey Opell and Callie Vaughan winners of $750 scholarships each. Winning the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Scholarship, worth $16,200 was Jaylynn Tucker. A live stream of the awards event can be viewed on the FCHS Facebook page.
The Fairfield Community High School Board of Education met last night and accepted bids for work on air conditioning in the east gym and construction at door 2. The projects, along with technology upgrades at the school, will be paid primarily through the CARES Grant. The board also accepted the resignation of Jenna Jones and approved the employment of Rhiannon Bridgeman as math teacher.
FCHS has announced Jacob Britt, Brenna Freeman, Karigan Harvey, Jalysse Kinney, Tegan Ruhl, Colbie Sutton, and Callie Vaughan have been named Illinois State Scholars. State Scholars represent approximately the top 10 percent of seniors from 726 high schools across the state, chosen based on a combination of ACT or SAT scores and sixth semester class rank. Lora Smith has been selected as the new Executive Director of the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission, which serves Crawford, Edwards, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties. Smith will be responsible for the management of all planning and administrative tasks for the Commission, and she comes to it with experience in grants and higher education.
The Fairfield PaintOut is accepting up to 10 photos per person of county scenery for this fall’s PaintOut. Artists will choose one photo to recreate in a painting that will be available at the art show and sale in October, and any photographer with a photo chosen will receive $20 in Chamber Bucks, with a limit of three per person.
