Albion Looks to Pave A Portion of Elm Street

The Albion City Council, in a three to two vote with Alderman Hodson absent, voted to advertise for bids to pave over the brick street with asphalt on Elm Street from Fifth to Seventh street. The bids would include a new curb and gutter. Alderman Quinton Spear made the motion, and the motion received a second from Levi Fenton. There was also some discussion about possibly redoing a portion of Elm Street, from Fifth to sixth street with the existing brick, however, no motion was ever made.

Headlines for Wednesday, April 7th

Mike Dreith was elected Fairfield Mayor last night, defeating Teresa Robinson and Nate McGaha. Dreith collected a total of 762 votes. His opponents had 302 and 48, respectively, after unofficial totals. In Cisne, Roy Atwood was re-elected Mayor, defeating Ken Neff and Christy King. Atwood had 77 votes compared to 68 and six from his opponents. Fairfield’s Alderman races were tightly contested, with one still up in the air. In Ward 2, Larry Vest, Angel Maguire, and Clifford Reever each had 58 votes. County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says three mail-in ballots remain at large. Dewey Eckleberry defeated Cody Attebury in Ward 1, Eugene McGill defeated Dick Clark in Ward 3, and Terry Stahl beat challenger Ed Prince in Ward 4. In Albion, the only contested race was for Ward 1, where Heather Borowiak defeated Levi Fenton.

Lora Smith has been selected as the new Executive Director of the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission, which serves Crawford, Edwards, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties. Smith will be responsible for the management of all planning and administrative tasks for the Commission, and she comes to it with experience in grants and higher education. The Fairfield PaintOut is accepting up to 10 photos per person of county scenery for this fall’s PaintOut. Artists will choose one photo to recreate in a painting that will be available at the art show and sale in October, and any photographer with a photo chosen will receive $20 in Chamber Bucks, with a limit of three per person. The USDA has increased incentive payments for practices installed on land enrolled in the Continuous Conservation Reserve Program. The FSA will up the Practice Incentive Payment for installing practices from five to 20 percent, and producers will receive an additional 10 percent incentive for water quality practices on enrolled land. Signup is available at any time. 36-year-old Chance W. Young was arrested by Wayne County deputies early yesterday morning on Wayne and White County warrants for delivery of or possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. Young was booked in the Wayne County Jail and held, pending the posting of a combined $6,020 bond.
