A motion brought by Cathaoirleach of the Greystones Municipal District, Councillor Stephen Stokes, seeking reform of local government in Ireland, passed with unanimous support at the February meeting of Wicklow County Council.
Following thousands of concerned residents signing petitions and filing submissions over plans to close exits on the N11 to facilitate a bus priority corridor, there have been calls for Wicklow County Council to make the Post-Consultation Report public without delay.
Cllr Stephen Stokes, Cathaoirleach of the Greystones Municipal District, welcomed Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald and Wicklow Sinn Féin TD Deputy John Brady to Greystones, while Deputy McDonald was on a whistle stop tour of the county on Thursday, February 15.
Funding has been approved for upgrade of the Fran O’Toole Bridge in Bray, which envisages the building of two new bridges on either side of the existing bridge to facilitate pedestrians and tie in with plans for the new bus corridor. The ambition is for the Fran O’Toole Bridge to be used to provide a cycle lane in both directions, with bus priority provided through traffic signal arrangements.
St John of God Community Services (SJOGCS), which operates in 300 locations in counties including Wicklow and is one of the largest providers of services for those with intellectual and mental health difficulties, has announced the transfer of all service provision to the Health Service Executive later this year.
