Thomson: Asked about competition from Google’s Chromebook, Reliance’s JioBook and Shark Tank-funded Primebook in the affordable segment, Krasnovsky said, “Laptops are perceived as more convenient than Chromebooks from a consumer standpoint, primarily because Microsoft Windows is more familiar in the context of laptops as a product.”

Thomson sees an opportunity with the government imposing restrictions on laptop imports from November 1. The company, which re-entered the Indian market in 2018 in partnership with SPPL, primarily makes TVs in India which it sells online only through Flipkart, and for laptops, too, it will follow a similar strategy. Thomson laptops are sold in France and other European countries.
Thomson Laptops: “Thomson will be coming in a big manner in the laptop category. This decision has been made to counter laptop brands which have come in smart TVs. We will be targeting all segments from entry-level to ultra-premium,” Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO of Super Plastronics (SPPL), Thomson’s official brand licensee and manufacturing partner in India, told ET.
