Show Transcript Wednesday mornings drive is going to be messy thanks to snow that fell Tuesday and overnight that crews will still be catching up on. Side roads in particular will be sloppy and there will also be a few showers leftover. Most of these will be in New York where they could continue to find a few more inches throughout the morning and day. But some stray shower will show upon the Vermont side of the lake too, especially in the mountains. In fact in the highest terrain they could see several more inches through Thursday morning. But with snow winding down elsewhere roads should improve throughout the day and although breezy it ll turn into an okay day with temperatures starting mild and staying near 30 for the afternoon. ?C

Column misleads with stereotypes about Islam
Stuart Richards’ Jan. 17 op-ed column, and the Forum responses that followed, all seek to contextualize Mohsen Mahdawi’s moving story of finding an attachment to people and land in the Upper Valley that had been so difficult to achieve in Israel or Palestine.
Although intelligent people can disagree about who is to blame for the violence, who missed opportunities to work for peace, and what should be done about it, I focus on Richards’ stereotyped and misleading image of Islam.
He forgets the Palestinian Christians who are involved in the struggle. He forgets there have always been predominantly Muslim states (Iran until 1979, Turkey until quite recently, Senegal, etc.) that have maintained diplomatic relations with Israel. Most seriously, he is mistaken about what the Quran teaches about Jews and Chris

Lebanon should keep its school resource officer
I am guessing most everyone in Lebanon knows there has been a significant increase in taxes. I was interviewed by Jim Kenyon regarding the tax issue (“Tax tempest in Lebanon,” Dec. 13). However, after I noticed Kenyon’s column conveniently added in his perspective directly after a suggestion I made, I was slightly saddened.
I suggested that deciding what to cut is the duty of our elected city officials and department heads, not ours. Kenyon then wrote that he was in support of “getting rid of Lebanon’s school resource officer.”
