MANY famous names from the world of cricket have turned out for sides in the Lancashire League. In 1988 East Lancs welcomed a promising 23-year-old Australian Tom Moody to Alexandra Meadows as their professional for the coming season. At six foot six, he certainly made a big impression on the welcoming committee team captain Andy Coulton, coach Jim Kenyon, cricket chairman Wilf Sager and club chairman Don Pomfret. Moody went on to enjoy a successful playing career, representing Australia in both Test matches and one day internationals. He also held the world record for throwing a haggis hurling the Scottish delicacy for 230 feet at a charity event!
