does as a federal official. so i think he s got leverage. i think that will come to haunt him in some of the other investigations that are targeting the trump organization, the trump foundation, the people who work for him in new york and his finances. new york has quite a bit of leverage over him in these situations, and i think the other thing to remember, kasie, is that new york has a long memory and donald trump is a child and a son of new york. new york politicians, the new york media, and a lot of other institutional players here have been observing him for decades. tim, the irs did put out a statement to kind of broaden this out to this more national conversation that we started with saying this memo that mnuchin was pressed on was a draft background paper, not finalized and isn t the official position of the irs. it was in fact prepared last fall. they say that the document wasn t sent up to the treasury
playing field, on a different jurisdiction, not part of the mueller investigation. so, katie, what do you think? i mean, is ashleigh right? do you think we re talking about southern district of new york for donald trump jr.? at a minimum. i mean, the litany of potential pitfalls that could be facing somebody like donald trump jr., ivanka trump, jared kushner, the list goes on and on, involves what, the trump foundation, the trump inaugural committee, the trump organization, campaign finance violations, tax fraud. i mean, the list goes on and on. and so, i think that people have been saying on one side, look, there has been no indictment of donald trump. well, yeah, i mean, so that doesn t mean that robert mueller didn t give the evidence to bill barr through his report to be able to state that there was enough there, he just couldn t do it. we don t know. but we have people on the side who are disappointed that sitting president of the united states didn t get indicted. i mean, wha
herald the wonder of robert mueller. if that s the case, people like nikki haley, people like lindsey graham, people like donald trump, if i were them i would be be waiting carefully to see what bill barr does. robert mueller s mandate, given to him by rob rosenstein last year in 2017 was very specific. it had a direct path, and it told robert mueller to stay in your lane. robert mueller, very wisely, may have turned over facts, evidence in his report, that will be unleashed by other prosecutors and other jurisdictions for things like the trump organization, the trump foundation, campaign finance violations, tax fraud, white house security clearance issues. the list goes on and on, and so
that, if it s determined he chose not to proceed because of lack of evidence, i think that completely takes the air out of the sails of attempts to press forward. and what many democrats want to do with impeachment proceedings, and i think that ought to be the end of it. neil: and if you had anything to do with the manhattan s attorney general s office and three other owners in district of columbia, and the district of virginia, looking at everything from the trump foundation, the charity foundation, to the trump business dealings, did you have anything like that ancillary to what you were investigating? no, and the reason was the independent counsel statute to the extent there needed to be extended authority, an independent counsel statute to go to the court for and complicates things this go-round. it does, but remember, all of this is under the auspice cesses
president was alerted to the no additional indictment thing and that people around him said he was happy about it, we don t know much more than that we re keeping track of it but again whatever happens, with the mueller probe, we re not done. there s something going on in the southern district of new york, jacqui heinrich is on top of that, hey, jackie. hey, neil the reality is even if the mueller report doesn t recommend any more indict ams the investigations out of the southern district of new york and elsewhere are not limited russian collusion or interference with the 2016 election and right now there are least six entities linked to the president under investigation. they are trump s inaugural committee, and potential corruption involving favors for donors trump taxes and the allegations that he benefited from a $4 million tax scheme involving deutsche bank, the trump organization, the trump foundation, michael cohen his former fixer and hush money payments made to adult actress
