Indigenous groups extend support to petition filed against CAA

Our CorrespondentDiphu, Nov. 19 (EMN): The indigenous ethnic groups of Assam has extended support to the petition filed in the Supreme Court of India by the Asom Sanmilita Mahasangh for the protection of the rights of the indigenous people of Assam. Bijoy Bey, president of Kari Students’ Association; Bipul Tisso, general secretary of Kari Students and Youth Council; Thongthang Touthang, president Kuki National Assembly; Lengin Singson, president of Kuki Students’ Organisation ; Dhiraj Diphusa, president of Dimasa Students’ Union; and Jaybabu Singh, and general secretary of Assam Meitei Apunba Lup have associated themselves as co-petitioners in the Matiur Rahma vs Government of India petition filed against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 which is under consideration in the Supreme Court, said Khorsing Teron, convenor of Hills Tribal League, during a press conference held at Karbi Students’ Association office here on Saturday. Karbi Students Association condemns damage to foundation stone

Our Correspondent Diphu, Nov.14 (EMN):  The Karbi Students Association (KSA) of the Inglongpho faction has condemned the damaging of a foundation stone for the construction of Forest IB at Sabuda under the Chinthong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency in West Karbi Anglong, which is very close to the inter-state boundary with Meghalaya, on the night of November 12. It may be mentioned that the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang during his visit to Umrukhuti for the Amur Falcon festival on November 12 had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Forest guest house. KSA holds rally against various issues - Eastern Mirror

Our Correspondent Diphu, June 22 (EMN): Karbi Students’ Association (KSA – Thangsing Timung) faction held a bike rally from Diphu town to Howraghat town, covering a distance of around 90 km on Wednesday. The rally was carried out against various issues including the immediate implementation of Article 244 (A) an autonomous state of the Indian constitution, cancellation of trading license to non-tribals, deletion of all non-tribals names from the voter list of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), no land patta to non-tribals and stopping nepotism culture in job appointments under KAAC. Speaking to media persons, President Thangsing Timung questioned the promises made by a few BJP leaders to give land pattas and trading licences to non-tribals in the Sixth Schedule.
