This hearing will come to order. Thank you all for being here today. One year ago today, lyon air 610 crashed into the sea in jakarta indonesia. All 189 people on board were killed. A few months later, an Ethiopian Air flight departed, and flight 302 experienced problems shortly after takeoff and crashed. All 157 persons on board died. Both of these accidents were entirely preventible. We cannot fathom the pain experienced by the families of those 346 human beings who were lost. Many family members are here today and we appreciate their attendance. I appreciate many of them meeting with members of the committee over time. As chairman of this committee, i promise their loved ones were working to obtain a full answer as to how to prevent future tragedies. These families deserve answers, accountability and action. And the public deserves no less. The type of aircraft involved in both accidents is a 737 max 8. Manufactured by boeing. International aviation safety regulators began grounding
Mr. Forkner meant by the email i can tell you that certification, training materials are not determined by one individual in fact, let me just interrupt you again. In the over 1600 page original flight manual of boeing 737 max, the aircrafts new mcas Computer System was mentioned only once, once in 1600 pages in the glossary of abbreviated terms. So when boeing came to us and said it is the pilots, inexperienced pilots, you were lying to us as well. Senator, if i could try to respond to your question first of all, the premise that we would lie or conceal is not consistent with our values i know it is not consistent with values that youre articulating here. Let me since my time is limited move on. Would you agree that this system of certification and oversight is broken, thats the issue, that boeing lobbied congress for more delegation and now we have to reverse that delegation of authority. Would you support those le legislative efforts . Senator, again, i support taking a hard look at

Biden, 4,000 dow points. Warren, 8,000 dow points. David hes got it all figured out. Sanders, a good 12,000 dow points. By the way, im serious when i say that. These people want to take a ton of equity out of the economy and put it in their hands. They want to tax the heck out of people and business and put it in their hands. Their hands, inefficient, ineffective, give them a dollar of tax, maybe 20 cents rolls down to what its used for, 80 cents goes to the bureaucracy. It is the worst thing that can happen. I got to tell you, some of these people running for president right now are making barack obama looking quite conservative these days. Gary, gary, they are going to say look at the economy and look at the market under barack obama. Look, i think this is a pretty ineffectual scare tactic. The president should be making the point about the free economy. Free economies are always the most process posperous. Government intervention is what causes the crashes. He should make that point
Through what that is and how how frightened we should be of the threat of that. Well there is definitely a threat of runaway Climate Change and the more technical way on a scientific way of looking at it is there are what we call 3 x. Was in your system that have their own dynamic for example thats the climate continues to warm ice is melting at an increasing rate up in the arctic ocean when that melts that actually uncovers much darker water and that reflects less sunlight and zones more sunlight and that intensifies the warming and there are a number of these socalled tipping elements around the earth system whether its august whether its all of the the ecosystems like the amazon forest the point being that once we humans push the climate past a critical point it will have its hold on them it will keep getting warmer even if we get emissions to 0 so we do face some real risk here that we could see much more intense Climate Change that we could not control and in terms of the effect o
