A greenhouse and hydroponics farm in North Utica will donate $10,000 to a local not-for-profit organization providing mental and behavioral health services.
Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri announced the donation from Brightwaters Farms to Integrated Community Alternatives Network, or ICAN, in a statement Wednesday.
“ICAN is a great organization that provides life-changing services to those in need, and Brightwaters Farms donation will help ICAN’s mission in keeping families together, as well as enhancing the quality of life of the individuals it serves,” Palmieri said.
Brightwaters Farms president Anthony Quintal said his family, and their partners, the DeRitis Family, are proud to support Utica and be part of the community.

The new year brings changes to the leadership at Saratoga County, and as WAMC’s Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard reports, the moves are highlighting divides within county government.
The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors held its organizational meeting for 2021 on Wednesday.
With a new year came the selection of a new county board chair, with a weighted majority of supervisors choosing Moreau Supervisor Todd Kusnierz, a Republican.
“Quite frankly, I think the Board of Supervisors were looking for someone who would effectively lead the county and I think that’s why my name was put forward,” said Kusnierz.
Consumers spent an estimated $19.8 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday, according to data recently released by American Express, up from $19.6 billion from last year.
According to a press release from the U.S. Small Business Administration, data show shoppers from coast to coast made a significant impact at small businesses during the 11th annual Small Business Saturday, held Nov. 28.
Online shopping at small businesses on the day was up significantly, with 56% of shoppers making a purchase online, up from 43% in 2019. More than 50% of Americans who reported shopping small on the day said they supported a small business through social media by endorsing local shops or shopping at a small business because of a recommendation on social media.
