Somerset County expands vaccination program to more school districts SOMERVILLE - Somerset County is expanding its program to vaccinate students against COVID-19. The county started the program in Green Brook and has added Bernards, Franklin,  North Plainfield, South Bound Brook, Watchung, Watchung Hills Regional, and Warren school districts. The program began last week in Green Brook where more than 150 residents between 12 and 18 were vaccinated. This week will see South Bound Book, North Plainfield, and Franklin schools hosting clinics, and next week will see Watchung, Warren, Watchung Hills and Bernards schools vaccinating students. The Somerset County Department of Health will return three weeks from each clinic to provide the second dose.

The county will operate drive-thru clinics at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and Rutgers Plaza in Franklin from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. RVCC will administer the Moderna vaccine, and Rutgers Plaza will utilize the J&J vaccine. Residents can schedule appointments at the drive-thru clinics by visiting covidvaccine.nj.gov/. Homebound adults can call the Somerset County s COVID hotline at 908-231-7155 to schedule an appointment to receive the J&J vaccine at home.

The county had been administering both the J&J and Moderna vaccines at its Raritan Valley Community College site and senior citizen clinics. The county will now be using the Moderna vaccine, which requires two shots instead of the one-shot J&J vaccine, for all vaccinations. However, the county has suspended its homebound vaccination program until the Centers for Disease Control and Food and Drug Administration complete their review of the J&J vaccine.
