Food bank starts 30th annual drive | News, Sports, Jobs

The seeing eye Feb 21, 2021 HARVEST FOR HUNGER CAMPAIGN: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley has kicked off its 30th annual Harvest for Hunger campaign, which is a food and funds drive that takes place during February, March and April to help stock the food bank shelves for the spring and summer months. Anyone interested in participating in the campaign by conducting a food and / or funds drive to benefit the food bank should call Julia at 330-792-5522, ext. 102, or visit www.mahoning valleysecondharvest.org to download a registration form. Financial contributions also may be made to supermarket sponsor Giant Eagle and participating Sparkle Markets by donating $1, $5, or $10 at the register through April 3. All funds raised and food collected remains in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties to help feed local residents. The Community Action agencies will make direct payments on behalf of the applicant to the landlord, bank, or water and / or sewer company. The seeing eye Jan 17, 2021 DAY OF REMEMBRANCE: The National Day of Remembrance to honor the memory of those who have died of COVID-19 will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration will include a memorial honoring those who have died of COVID-19. The ceremony will be at the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool in Washington, D.C. marking the “first-ever lighting around the reflecting pool to memorialize American lives lost.” Communities across the country are invited to join in the memorial event by lighting up buildings, turning on porch lights and ringing church bells at 5:30 p.m for a “national moment of unity and remembrance.”
