She explained the differences between actual events in the authors life, the little house on the prairie book series, and the television adaptation. Finley describing how African Americans established businesses on the north side of town. This is the first African American mortuary in the state of alabama. They originally opened in 1880s. They built this building in the 1900s. But the real story is mrs. Allen. She started a private school directly behind us in the 1880s. It was called the Josephine Allen institute. Because in the 1800s before the emancipation proclamation, it was against the law for africanamericans to be educated. After the emancipation proclamation, schools started opening everywhere. She opened one to educate young africanamericans. This family actually came to mobile, from virginia. They were never slaves, they were elite. T
