The northern part of West Bengal shares border with Sikkim which witnessed a flash flood in the Teesta river leaving at least 10 people dead, scores injured and around 80 others missing.
The flash floods are being said to be the result of the Glacial Lake Outburst in the South Lhonak Lake where water over an area of 105 hectares drained out creating a flash flood downstream.
Flash floods in Sikkim have caused chaos, with rivers overflowing and many areas being flooded. Many people were forced to leave their homes and take shelter in designated shelters. The Gajoldoba barrage on the Teesta river had to open all sluice gates. Tourists, workers, and students were stranded in various places due to the washed-away or damaged highways.
At least 14 people have died and 102 others, including 23 army personnel, went missing on Wednesday after a cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim triggered a flash flood in the Teesta River basin
