TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women’s tennis team faces ACC in-state rival Miami at home on Sunday. The Seminoles are 6-4 on the season, which includes 1-1 in ACC play, and are a perfect 4-0 record at home. Florida State enters Sunday's match ranked 40th in the national team rankings. Freshman Millie Bissett headlines the team after being announced ACC co-Freshman of the Week. Bissett earned four total wins over the previous weekend and is 9-2 overall in her freshman season. Florida State’s Anna Arkadianou also went 4-0 this past weekend and is 87th in the national singles ranking. Senior Vic Allen leads the team with a 7-2 record in the spring season and is currently on a three-game win streak. TALLAHASSEE – The 9th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team returns home Friday when they play South Alabama at 4 p.m. at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. The Seminoles have played two consecutive ranked opponents. Florida State’s record stands at 5-2 for the season. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 12 singles player in the nation. Cornut-Chauvinc’s enters Friday’s match with a 6-0 record with five of those wins coming against ranked opponents, most recently defeating Axel Nefve of Florida. Cornut-Chauvinc has won three weekly honors after winning ACC’s co-Player of the Week on January 31, his third weekly honor after earning Player of the Week and Doubles Pair of the Week on January 17. Youcef Rihane, ranked 24th nationally, has been dominant in singles play for the Noles. Rihane is 6-1 and has beaten two nationally ranked players so far this year. The Seminoles are 4-1, including a perfect 3-0 at home, this season. Junior Ellie Schoppe has had quite an impressive start to the 2023 spring season. Schoppe goes into this weekend's matchup with a 4-0 singles record and a 3-0 doubles record with senior Kianah Motosono. Schoppe and Motosono were able to capture a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against 7th-ranked Stanford, and the duo currently has a six-match win streak stretching back to the fall season. Redshirt sophomore Alice Amendola heads into this matchup with a 2-0 singles record and a 2-0 doubles record. Amendola was ahead 6-2, 5-4 at No. 6 singles against Stanford before the team winner was decided and the match ended. In their last match, the Seminoles defeated No. 7 Georgia 5-2 and improved to 3-0 on the season after sweeping the opening weekend in Hawai’i.
Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 12 singles player in the nation. All three of his singles wins this season have been over ranked opponents, including the No. 1-ranked singles player Ethan Quinn from Georgia. Youcef Rihane, ranked 24th nationally, is also 3-0 in singles play. Sophomore Jamie Connel, who is ranked 53rd in the country, is 2-0 with a win against Georgia over the 21st-ranked player nationally. The Seminoles defeated No. 7 Georgia in the home opener on Jan. 15 after opening the season with a weekend sweep of Hawai’i and Cal in Honolulu. FSU is second among the six ACC teams in this week’s top-25, behind only top-ranked Virginia, and ahead of 14th-ranked Wake Forest, No. 18 North Carolina, No. 20 Duke and No. 21 NC State.
