TALLAHASSEE – The 9th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team returns home Friday when they play South Alabama at 4 p.m. at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. The Seminoles have played two consecutive ranked opponents. Florida State’s record stands at 5-2 for the season. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 12 singles player in the nation. Cornut-Chauvinc’s enters Friday’s match with a 6-0 record with five of those wins coming against ranked opponents, most recently defeating Axel Nefve of Florida. Cornut-Chauvinc has won three weekly honors after winning ACC’s co-Player of the Week on January 31, his third weekly honor after earning Player of the Week and Doubles Pair of the Week on January 17. Youcef Rihane, ranked 24th nationally, has been dominant in singles play for the Noles. Rihane is 6-1 and has beaten two nationally ranked players so far this year. Sophomore Jamie Connel is ranked 53rd in the country in singles competition for the Seminoles. South Alabama is led by Senior Martin Bugaj, who is undefeated on the season, posting a 7-0 record in singles play. The Jaguars are 5-3 this season with wins over East Tennessee State, Samford, UAB and two 7-0 wins over West Alabama. The Seminoles are 23-6 all time against the Jaguars, including a 4-0 win in 2021.
