KAAC distributes cash and appliances to farmers

Our Correspondent Diphu, Oct. 31 (EMN): In a joint programme organised by Sericulture and Irrigation departments under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), a total of 130 active silkworm farmers received a cash award of INR 10,000 and rearing appliances, while the Irrigation department distributed canvas pipes to farmers of tubewell scheme under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) – Har Khet Ko Pani Phase – II. Another 336 farmers also received electricity bill debit from the government under the same scheme PMKSY – Har Khet Ko Pani for irrigating their farmlands, in a distribution programme held at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall here on Monday. Karbi Anglong: Trafficked girl returns home after 11 years

Our Correspondnet Diphu, Oct. 7 (EMN): In a case of human trafficking, a teenage girl who went missing from Diphu in 2011 was finally rescued from Zero, Arunachal Pradesh, on October 6, through the joint effort of the Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) and One-Stop Centre NGO of Arunachal Pradesh. The victim’s family members in a press conference at the office of KAWJF on Friday said that in 2011 their 14-year-old daughter had gone missing. They alleged that a woman named  Hanri (Ka-et) Terangpi, wife of Sarsing Teron of Birla Ram Teron, Diphu  had lured their daughter from Diphu Mela held at Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) playground in 2011  and took her to Guwahati. After a few days, Terangpi took the girl to Zero in Arunachal Pradesh and handed her to a man to work as a housemaid. Our Correspondent Diphu, June 23 (EMN): Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Tuliram Ronghang has been elected unopposed as Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for a consecutive third term. Raju Tisso, Chairman of KAAC presided over the election for the post of CEM held at the KAAC session on Thursday. The chairman, while announcing the name for the post of CEM said, “As no other candidates are contesting for the post of CEM, I declare the name of MAC Tuliram Ronghang as CEM”.
