So for our area, this is it. This is basically with all the winds and all the dry weather that we have been having, its just been accumulating and accumulating. Reporter once the light came up, cal fire launched an air attack. Nine helicopters conducted a seemingly nonstop attack, crisscrossing the sky, hoping to put out flames in deep brush. Its burning near crest tree farms on the road where people are keeping a close eye on the firefight. The way we have seen fires go up here, were pretty nervous. If the winds kick up tonight, it could be here in half an hour. So hopefully somebody will wake me up. Live where you live, this is abc 7 news. Dramatic new video tonight shows a santa rosa neighborhood before the fire hit and after it burned hundreds of homes. But first, two new fires threaten homes in the east bay and the santa cruz mountains. Good evening. Im dan ashley. And im dion lim. Ama daetz is on maternity leave. One of those two fires continues to burn in the santa cruz mountains. Its destroyed four structures and right now 150 more are in danger and theyve been evacuated. Reporter of welsch as of right now, about 225 acres have burned up here in the santa cruz mountains. Thats not big compared to the north bay. You talk to sandra wood. She lost everything. In fact she ran back into her house to save loved ones both living and dead before making a mad dash from the fire. Tonight, the Cal Fire Air Attack has slowed the spread of the fehr fire. But late last night before crews could do battle, sandra wood was driving home, her husband and dog inside the house unaware of the fire fast approaching. The fear is he didnt and he cant get out. So i had the car. Reporter she raced to the house to save her husband and relative whos died long ago. I grabbed my dad and brothers urn and my wedding ring. Its hard. And we lose everything. Students resumed classes at sonoma state today. Their campus was closed due to the fires. Abc 7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield is there. A few special events planned for today, right . Reporter there are, jessica. This campus has a lot to be grateful for, but also some people who need some support and some care from fellow students. There were some students and Staff Members who did lose their homes including the university president. She lost her home in santa rosa. But the campus is fine. It was not touched by fire. It was saved. A lot to be grateful for there. They will start the day off with coffee and doughnuts in the student center. Everyone invited to that. Theyll also have a banner that people can sign to thank the firefighters for all that they did during this firefight. And then late this afternoon theyre inviting everyone to come and get around that banner and take a picture so they can give it to the firefighters. Even with the fog youre doing okay. In the green at 15. Alexis, thank you. 600 firefighters working to contain a 271acre wildfire that weve been telling you about in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This started monday night on bear canyon road. So far the bear fire has destroyed four structures, 150 more still threatened. That fire is only 5 contained. Abc 7 News Reporter matt keller is live at one of the Evacuation Centers. Well check in with him our next half hour. And now some of the biggest fires burning in the north bay. The nuns fire and napa and sonoma counties burned nearly 53,000 acres, 73 contained. Over to the tubbs fire, 432 acres burned, 87 contained for that one. Finally, the atlas fire in napa and solano counties, its burned just over 51,000 acres and, as you can see, at 80 containment.
