Finally, the atlas fire in napa and solano counties, its burned just over 51,000 acres and, as you can see, at 80 containment. Students resume classes at sonoma state after the campus was closed due to the north bay fires. Abc 7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield is there and, amy, good morning to you. So they will have a banner on campus today that people can sign for firefighters to thank them for all of their hard work during this firefight. Late this afternoon everyone is invited to come and take a picture with the banner to give to firefighters and the chancellor will be here to make a few remarks. Administrators have been in Constant Contact with firefighters and city leaders and they have decided it is now safe for everyone to return to campus and for classes to resume. The fire has blackened nearly 36,000 acres there and is being blamed for eight deaths. And crews are now close to fully containing the sulfur fire burning in lake county. Cal fire reports its 92 contained and has burned 2,200 acres. Evacuation orders have been lifted but warnings do remain in place. The fires in lake and mendocino counties have destroyed a total of 436 homes. Happening today a chance to drive up and donate to fire victims. We are at an Evacuation Center, a Fire Department whose firefighters just arrived back from the bear fire. They say it was good news overnight. Cal fire is expecting to give us an update at about 7 00. Here are the latest numbers overnight. Four structures were destroyed. Bear fire is 5 contained. One woman said embers were already on her driveway when her family decided to leave. My husband said if theres anything that you want youd better take it now because thats it. I grabbed my dad and my brothers urns. Reporter sandra wood found out her yurt was destroyed. The same evacuations in the bear canyon area are still in effect this morning. The Sheriffs Department says they are patrolling the area overnight. There are still several road closures and shelters for both people and their animals. In the east bay several hundred dublin residents waking up in their homes after being evacuated yesterday by a fastmoving grass fire. Crews aggressively attacked the fire with fire retardant to slow the flames. The evacuations lifted after 5 30. A santa rosa couple will hold a News Conference in San Francisco to answer questions about their new lawsuit against pg e. Their names are wayne and jennifer, they lost their home in the coffey park neighborhood, one of the hardest hit areas when the tubbs fire raged through that area. The couple claims it was pg es fault that high voltage power lines actually went crashing down, came into contact with dry vegetation and sparked multiple fires. Now pg e officials have not commented. They said they will not speculate about any cause of those fires yet. Pg e says they have crews, and are restoring electricity to 97 . In addition cal fire has given the utility access to 6,000 homes. Officials expect to restore power to those customers by tomorrow. Pg e also says they hope to get access to a remaininging 400 homes today. Officials say they expect to restore gas service to all remaining customers who can receive it by tonight. The napa county sheriff identified the volunteer firefighter killed on monday. 38yearold garrett paiz was from missouri. He was working as a volunteer firefighter in Washington State when he was dispatched to the north bay. He was driving a privately owned tender down a steep grade when he apparently lost control. The water truck rolled down an embankment northwest of yountville. Paiz was the 41st victim of the Deadly Wildfires and the first crew member to lose his life. Senators Dianne Feinstein and harris are raising concerns about the wireless Emergency Alert system, the nationwide system that sends alerts to your cell phone. The senators sent a letter to the fcc saying the system did not transmit lifesaving information because of, quote, technical deficiencies. The sheriff giordana says the county sent out warnings through its nixle service. They require residents to register in advance. This morning we are getting a broader view of the devastation caused by the wildfires. Wayne freedman took an aerial tour with the National Guard over the fire zones. Both fountaingrove and coffey park neighborhoods are mostly flattened. The major compared the devastation to iraq and the florida keys following hurricane irma. A few weeks ago we were in irma working hurricane recovery. In either scenario you start thinking about what it would be like to be that person with that loss and its remarkable. Its got to be a tough spot to be in. Cal fire estimates more than 5,000 structures are destroyed. A Golf Tournament in the north bay that wrapped up only hours before the start of the wildfire is now donating to the relief effort. The safeway open is contributing 200,000 in support of napa and sonoma counties. It was held at seilverado resor and spa.
