KSPCB officials told BM that a show cause notice will be issued to the violators and action will be taken against them. However, BBMP’s Lake Department will have to ensure the security and safety of the lake area.
Officials had informed residents that development work would be taken up after the monsoon. However, the civic agency has not even lifted a finger since then. Locals said the lake has been abandoned: ‘it has become a garbage dumping ground. Untreated sewage is being diverted from a nearby residential apartment complex’.
According to officials from BBMP’s Solid Waste Management (SWM) department, the amount of C&D waste being seized and cases being registered has gone down in the recent past.
While BBMP had an ABC Centre in the Mahadevapura zone, it was shut down nearly nine months ago. Since then, dogs from the Mahadevapura have been brought to Yelahanka ABC Centre for birth control surgeries. Officials say complaints regarding street dog issue from the area is constantly pouring in. Incidentally, Mahadevpura also has the highest population of street dogs in the city. As per the latest dog census report, while the total street dog population of Bengaluru is 2.79 lakh, over 58,000 street dogs are in the zone.
