FARGO, N.D. The Salvation Army wraps up last year’s Red Kettle campaign as they announce the results of their largest fundraiser of the year.
With implications of the pandemic, the Salvation Army says they anticipated many more people in need of help in 2020 compared to previous years.
As a result, the red kettles were down $60,000 from the previous year as they say they saw a decrease in foot traffic.
“As you know, our goal was to raise $900,000. It is our largest fundraising campaign of the year and today I’m happy to report to you that we raised $890,425. So a little bit short of our $900,000 goal but extremely significant,” Salvation Army Corps Officer Maj. Jerry O’Neil said.

As many are struggling to outlast the negative impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Salvation Army continues to fight the good fight, helping those in need.
Salvation Army-Shawnee Capt. Patrick Connelly said 2020 s Red Kettle program that just wrapped up a few weeks ago yielded $71,234.17 just under last year s figures.
The Salvation Army in Shawnee has operated with budget deficits over the last several years, he said.
“The funds raised this season will enable us to continue the programs and services our community has come to expect,” Connelly said.

The impact of the campaign signals a sharp increase in the number of families who now meet the poverty threshold in the Chattanooga and Cleveland regions, officials said. In 2020, the organization saw a 64 percent increase in the number of families relying on The Salvation Army’s support. “As we approached this holiday season, we understood the distinct challenges of meeting the tremendous need faced by a growing number of individuals and families in our area,” said Major Mark Smith of the Chattanooga Area Command.
