Salvation Army To Distribute Walmart And Food City Gift Cards To Displaced Patten Towers Residents Thursday, April 1, 2021 After a fire at the Patten Towers apartments left 160 tenants without a home, The Salvation Army and Metropolitan Ministries are doing their part to ensure that those impacted by this tragedy have everything they need. Major John Edmonds, of the Chattanooga Area Command, will spend Good Friday distributing $100 Walmart gift cards and $35 Food City certificates at two East Ridge hotels where residents are temporarily being housed. These gift cards will support displaced residents and allow them to purchase necessities. These residents are currently being housed by five local hotels where meals are being delivered daily. It is unknown at this time as to when these residents will be able to return to their apartments. Many left their homes with only the clothes on their backs and are in great need for undergarments, clothing, and basic supplies. Since

The Salvation Army’s Echelon Group To Host 3rd Annual Bacon And Boxers Event Friday Wednesday, March 17, 2021 Echelon Chattanooga, The Salvation Army’s division of young professionals, is supporting men who are experiencing homelessness with a health-oriented outreach event. The event, called Bacon and Boxers, takes place on Friday from noon-2 p.m. and is intended to supply men with necessities like undergarments, socks, hygiene items and first-aid essentials that are highly requested, yet seldom donated. Attendees will also be served bacon pizza, barbecue sandwiches, fruit and other filling and nutritional snacks.    Additionally, Echelon is accepting donations for the event.

The Salvation Army To Host Seventh Annual Mardi Bra Event Friday, February 12, 2021 The Salvation Army of Chattanooga’s Women’s Auxiliary is celebrating Mardi Gras with an outreach event for women experiencing homelessness. The event, called Mardi Bra, is intended to supply women with necessities like bras, panties and feminine hygiene items that are rarely donated because they are expensive or overlooked. At the event, attendees will be able to pick out items they need while enjoying a meal and fellowship with Salvation Army representatives and volunteers. Additionally, The Salvation Army is accepting donations for the event. The organization is requesting new women’s underwear, bras and socks, travel size deodorant and lip balm.

The Salvation Army Welcomes New Board Members, Chairman Tuesday, February 2, 2021 John “Tripp” Thurston The Salvation Army’s Chattanooga Area Command is welcoming a new board chairman and five board members who will support the organization’s longstanding mission of Doing the Most Good for Chattanooga’s most vulnerable neighbors. Greg Love, a current board member, has been elected chairman while Caleb Bowman, Ryan Marshall, Barbara Marter, Catina Parrish and John “Tripp” Thurston have joined the board to help guide the nonprofit’s service. “I am humbled by the talented people on our board who freely give their time to support our mission in Chattanooga and help us provide key services for underserved individuals,” said Major Mark Smith of the Chattanooga Area Command. “Our new board members are fantastic and well-rounded additions to this group, and I am thrilled to serve alongside them.”
