Incredibly sad scene that we see on northbound 101. You can see the far right lanes are blocked because of this terrible crash that happened just before 12 30 am. We understand the taxi driver was driving on northbound 101 with an active fair carrying two passengers when they were hit by a driver coming the wrong way on northbound 101. There is a volkswagen that was driving the wrong way, unclear why that woman was driving the wrong way but she crashed into the taxi and this is the result of this terrible accident. Everyone involved in the taxi and the volkswagen has died. There were four people in total. One woman in the volkswagen passed away. The taxi driver and his two passengers passed away as well. In the last 30 minutes we spoke with chp who tells us they are barely starting to investigate this accident and are not sure why this woman was driving the wrong way. We do not know. We did get multiple calls with multiple locations. One location was northbound 101 abby 280 split, so,
Lets bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri with more on the conditions theyre dealing with. Even some low 90s in the vicinity of the fire. The heat and the humidity are the number one things theyre battling. The good news which is probably helping them get that containment we just heard about is the wind is not extremely gusty. Right now we have winds out of the northwest at 10, occasional gusts to 20. So that likely has been helping those firefighters. Here you can see it on this map. South of Lake Berryessa. Smoke from this primarily blowing towards winters with the way that that wind is blowing. Once again, 128 and wragg canyon road. Tomorrow winds out of the west at 10. Tomorrow gusts also up to 20. But yesterday, boy, it was so hot out there. Temperatures in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees. Take a look at all of the records. Santa rosa, 101 degrees. Richmond, 94. San francisco, 97. Sfo, 100. Oakland, 98. Gilroy, 104 degrees. Another heat advisory. All the areas in yellow. The reds, in excessive heat warning. The one difference for today. The areas not under these advisories or warnings. Thats out to the coast. And San Francisco, upper 90s. Today, are thinking mid80s later on this afternoon. Maybe some upper 80s and that sea breeze holds off. In fact, right now, you can see the surface winds trying to increase out of the west. Picked up. An elderly woman lives in a home that bird burned but she did not seem to be home at the time. Reporter one firefighter had a heat related illness but no one else was hurt. Has been a hot, dry fire season so far. Weve had several large fires around the city but we havent had the really big ones happen in san joses jurisdiction yet. They are coming. Reporter among the things firefighter safes, these two park seeds that sits overlooking the santa clara valley. This is one of the homes that were saved. You can see the fire came right down to the driveway. Firefighters are now investigating reports of the downed power lines to see if that indeed was the cause of the fire.
