Bengaluru this year has recorded the second highest number of deaths in road accidents in the country after Delhi. According to the latest data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the city accounted for 3,822 road accidents in a year which makes 5.8 percent of the total accidents recorded in India while Delhi accounted for 8.1 percent of cases. Data shows that the city recorded the highest number of pedestrian deaths in the country with 247 deaths and 822 pedestrian injuries.
Currently, 53.85% of metro users commute using cards, 46.06% rely on tokens that can be bought at ticket counters and through online ticketing, while the rest buy tickets in groups. Sanjeev Dyamannavar, a rail activist, had noted that the sales might see a significant drop soon.
Rail activist and founder Citizens for Citizens (C4C), Rajkumar Dugar, noted that the agents assigned to monitor halt stations are poorly paid (allegedly Rs 1,500 per month) by the SWR, leading to many not taking up the job, leaving halt stations unmanned. He further said that agents have massive responsibilities like investing their own money to purchase ticketing systems, maintenance and monitoring among other aspects.
The group said that the current maps used within the Majestic metro station have a few issues. The Majestic metro station is where one is required to interchange between the Purple and Green lines in order to reach their destinations.
